Drop and Insert Operation

The innovative bus architecture of Intraplex T1 and E1 multiplexers allows them to operate in an extremely efficient drop and insert configuration.

As the figure below illustrates, individual channel modules can be used to establish circuits not just from Location 1 to Location 2 and from Location 2 to Location 3, but also from Location 1 to Location 3, with these circuits passing untouched through Location 2.

Time slots used between sites 1 and 2 may be reused between 2 and 3.

And, as in Intraplex point-to-point systems, the same time slots can support independent one-way traffic in each direction of the link.
One-way circuits such as program audio transmissions can be inserted at one location and monitored at any or all locations down the line, without the need for tandem decoding and re-encoding.

While this illustration diagrams a three-site network, there can actually be as many as one hundred sites in a drop and insert string without any loss of signal quality.
